Sparkly fairy dust

We used the fairy dust that we made a few months ago and kept in a tub, the ingredients for the original fairy dust was - salt, paint and hundreds and thousands.

This time we added a tube of glitter!

We used jars and different shaped/sized spoons to play with the fairy dust -

And made patterns in it too -

Paper plate snow men (Toddler group craft)

This week at toddlers we decided to make some snowmen since it has been so cold and frosty outside.

I used paper plates for the body and paper plates with the rims cut off for the heads.

I also cut out hat, scarf, nose, eyes, button and arm shapes from coloured paper.

The children used glue to stick these on.

The end result looked something like this.  Although of course we also had many snowmen with numerous noses and scarfs on their heads!

Rudolph biscuits

To make these gingerbread reindeer we used the Be-ro recipe which is - http://www.be-ro.co.uk/recipe/showrec22.html

  • 300 g (10 oz) Be-Ro Self Raising Flour
  • pinch salt
  • 3 x 5 ml spoon (3 tsp) ground ginger
  • 100 g (4 oz) caster sugar
  • 50 g (2 oz) margarine
  • 3 x 15 ml spoon (3 tbsp) golden syrup
  • 4 x 15 ml spoon (4 tbsp) milk
To make the shape of the reindeer head you use...a gingerbread man cutter!  If you turn this upside down then it makes the shape of a reindeer!  Very clever!

After the biscuits had cooked at 160 for 15min and allowed to cool we decorated them.  We used writing icing.  However you could use normal icing with food colouring, or even a glace cherry for the nose!

Snow Flakes

To make a snowflake - cut a circle of white paper.  Fold in to a triangle and cut out shapes

Open it up and ta da!

Decorate with glitter glue, glitter and sequins - if you do this over a tray it makes a lot less mess!

Our finished results...

Fireworks pictures

We used chalk to make fireworks pictures on black paper

Conker crafts!

So today we finally got round to using all the conkers we collected a few weeks ago! We went back this morning to the park to look for anymore and they were all gone so we obviously just got the right time before.

Schools were off here today so these activities were done with a 6yr old.

The idea for making the animals with conkers came from RedTed Art, will link at bottom of page! So thanks for that!

You will need -

  • conkers
  • a thick needle/tool to make holes in conkers
  • glue
  • pipe cleaners of varying colours (chopped up)
  • googly eyes
  • mini pompoms/random crafty bits
  • some thread

SPIDER

We used an upholstery needle to make the holes in the conkers, this was quite tricky!

I had already cut the pipecleaners in to various lengths so 6yr old picked what colours she wanted her spider to be and popped them in the holes.  You can secure them with glue but we found they stayed in ok without.

We opted for pompom eyes!

HORSE

Poor horsey didn't turn out quite so well! We forgot to keep the acorns we had, we thought the head would have been better with one of them!

He did stand up which was a relief! His blue mane and tail make him look rather like a children's TV character and his pompom eyes....!

SNAKE

This snake might be my favourite thing we made! Threaded the conkers together with thick thread.  The body was decorated with tissue paper, pompoms and using chalk on the conkers to make patterns!
He was named "Slithers!"

CONKER NUMBER GAMES

The number on these conkers were written in chalk, and were easier to see in real life than in photos!

We filled in these spaces to make sums.

And separated them in to odd and even numbers

4yr old came home from nursery and asked to count with them too - so she lined them up counting and separating them by colour of chalk on them.

So Halloween is over - what next?

Halloween is over for another year!  So what is next?

Too early for me to start on Christmas things! Next week will be a continuation of our autumn crafts - maybe using some of those conkers we found!  And also fireworks night pictures!

So will be stocking up on black paper, chalk and sparkly bits!

Have a great weekend!
